IMPORTANT SCHOOL NEWS & UPDATES

• 1-hr Early Release on each Wednesday begins Sept 16. This time will give staff the opportunity to work as a professional learning team to discuss how to help all students achieve academically and continue to grow in their educational pursuits. Please avoid coming in to talk to your child's teacher or ask to meet with a teacher on these early release days.
• Sweet-Montour PTO elected new officers for 2009-2010. We look forward to the leadership of Co-Presidents, Rolanda Newell and Pam Taylor. Meetings are scheduled every second Wednesday of the month.
• Teachers Kristi Donaldson & Bonnie Ternes each received a $500 grant from Micron to develop and supply a Science & Math portable resource cart.  Everyone is excited for more hands-on science activities.
• The Sweet School’s Site based council meets monthly, or as needed, on the first Tuesday of the month at 2:40pm. Please place your suggestions/comments/concerns/compliments in the suggestion box at school or give them to any member of the site based team.  Following are the 2009-2010 members of this team:  Kathy Johns, Christa John, Carrie Burnett, Kristi Donaldson, Bonnie Ternes, Kelly House, Gail McDonough, Judy Gatfield, Liz Compton (replacing Sue Beitia) 
• Staff will be reviewing and revising the Student Handbook this 2009-10 school year as well as looking at the development of homework guidelines. If you have input to offer, please use the comment box.

• About Everyday Mathematics: A Parent Manual (http://www.asdk12.org/Depts/math/math.pdf ) This is a great manual that explains the way math is done in the Everyday Math program.  Please Note that this manual is aligned to Alaska's Standards not Idaho's Standards.  However, it still provides good information for parents.

Ola Elementary

GEM COUNTY RURAL SCHOOLS

These 2 elementary schools are located in a rural part of Gem County.  Both schools are K-6th Grade with mulitple-grade classrooms.

Access both schools by driving north from Hwy. 52 on the Sweet-Ola Hwy. The Sweet-Montour School is located only 2 miles north of that intersection;  the Ola School is located another 17 miles north from there.
